Lord in honor those who went before me to fight for our civil rights I want to say THANK YOU. Lord I ask you continue to bless Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s family. Lord I also ask that you bless the other civil right activist who fought for equality. Lord I am thankful for what they had to endure physically, mentally and spiritually to establish the rights for blacks. Lord they had to be battle weary yet they kept hoping for a better future. I AM THAT FUTURE. Lord the resurgence of hate crimes across the US is sparking the activist heart of mines. Civic engagement is required now more than ever in my lifetime. I can not stand on the sidelines and watch injustice. Lord I seek to be an example of what it says in Micah 6:8
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly[a] with your God.
Lord thank you for giving us examples of how to stand strong in a Christ-like manner even when faced with adversity. Lord I ask you bless John Lewis and his family. Lord my smart mouth would have lashed at out over the tweets yet he rises above the insults. Lord it is clear, John Lewis knows his true identity. Lord I pray you will continue to send him words of encouragement and thank you notes. Lord I pray that his constituents will continue to defend all the work his has done on behalf of their community and the civil rights movement.
Lord I pray today will be a time of remembrance and a call to action. I pray will remember that “I Have A Dream” has not be fulfilled yet. We still have work to do Lord. May we as a nation be bold and courageous to do the hard work required to heal our land. Lord give us wisdom and strategies on how to accomplish it. Lord teach us how to love in such a divided country. I ask all of this in Jesus name – AMEN
